Isn't it interesting that the aseres hadibros

Has the mitzvos Bain Adam l'mokom (between man and Hashem) first as the first 5 commandments on the first of the luchos; but the second set of 5, Bain Adam l'chavero (between man and man) as the second set of 5 on the second tablet, in parsha Yisro,  BUT the very next parsha, Mishpatim, deals with civil laws between man and man.

    The 4 categories of shomrim

Exist today, lehavdil, in secular law. In secular law it's called Bsilment with very similar 4 categories and corresponding obligations and penalties for breach.

Property can be land and things attached to land like a building. Then there is movable property. Bailment exists when movable property is in the possession of someone who is not the owner. Like our parsha, it can be a borrower,  a renters, a guardian for free or paid. The dry cleaner, the parking lot, etc are all Gustdians.  The level of liability for damage varies with each category. If there is liability then penalties are .monetary.
