A bit confused by the end
At the end you bring the Rogotchover Gaon, that the denial of the day prevents Yom Kippur from atoning for those sins done on Yom Kippur. But if the ישראל part of the נשמה never sins, why are sins of Yom Kippur different? Furthermore, isn't it true that the NEXT Yom Kippur atones for sins committed on the previous one? And what does עיצומו של יום mean? We see that Rashi explains בעצם היום as the middle of the day. (See the end of האזינו.) So perhaps it means that sins committed after the middle of the day are not atoned for, because the atonement moment already passed. But the real upshot of the whole מאמר, as I understand it, is that you are really only sinning against yourself. We are in pain when we do not recognize our innate goodness as a חלק א-לוה ממעל. This causes us to sin, which makes us feel even less so. And this is the only REAL עבירה. I think the שפת אמת said that the reason we start מעריב after Yom Kippur with והוא רחום יכפר עון is because we don't really believe that all was forgiven. And this leads to the next חטא. With this we can understand עבירה גוררת עבירה. It's sort of like a person on a diet who binges, feels guilty about it, and then that causes him (or her) to binge again. However, when we do a מצוה, we feel that essence of our נשמה within us, and we want to be even more connected to it. So we do another מצוה.
