Unfortunately my twin brother and my father have a very painful and fractured relationship. We experienced a lot of neglect in our childhood and my brother has not been able to forgive my father. My father was a single father, and battled alcoholism and more. We did not grow up frum. My brother and I both became baalei teshuva. My father and brother don’t speak on the phone or even barely by email. Our family haven’t seen each other in over 4 years because of Covid and my brother and his family are finally coming to visit. My father will be meeting his grandson for the first time. My father and I don’t have a perfect relationship but I have been able to move on from the pain and trauma, and Baruch Hashem learning Chassidus and deeply internalizing the lessons has helped me tremendously. My husband says I’m a tzedekis haha no I just really don’t see the point in hurting myself more by holding onto the pain. When I struggle I realize it may be some residual unresolved trauma but I try to face it head on and address it. My brother is in therapy and WANTS to forgive our father but he admitted to me that he just doesn’t want to get hurt again. I’m stuck in between them, as everyone is coming to my house for Pesach. Any thoughts suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!! A Zissen Pesach! May we all be redeemed this year and have a true Geula shelaima in every sense of the word!!
