Thank you so much for this class. Rabbi yy spoke about this one yom tov a couple of years ago but couldn't take notes. I always had it in mind when I hear birkas kohanim! I'm so happy to have this recording and hear it again. Thank you!

טור הפירוש הקצר תמוה מאד !
The Baal Haturim writes:
טור הפירוש הקצר במדבר ו'
שלום – בגימ' עשו לרמז הוי מקדים שלום לכל אדם ואפי' בשלום נכרי
This is the culmination of birkas kohanim?! A remez to Esav? Further we know that the mishna in uktzin tells us no greater kli for bracha then shalom. Does this have any significance with Esav?
Based upon the shiur perhaps it sheds light on this mysterious baal haturim. The last bracha we explained is when we see our child not as we may have expected him to turn out. He may have chosen a path that seems similar to Esav. We may want to turn away and avoid confrontation.
However, the Torah teaches us הוי מקדים שלום. Do not turn your face away. You make that first step towards keeping the bond and maintaining the relationship. Then even if your child is out on the streets ( lashon of the gemara brachos (17a) אמרו עליו על רבן יוחנן בן זכאי שלא הקדימו אדם שלום מעולם ואפילו נכרי בשוק ) you will bring shalom to your child and to yourself as well.
Not only that but it will be the kli and the key towards an abundance of all brachos. Because it is precisely this child which touches us and challenges us to delve deeply into ourselves to overcome our own difficulties. In this way he can bring bracha to all parts of ourselves, even those concealed parts and in turn bring bracha to the child as well. (משנה עוקצין ג'אמר רבי שמעון בן חלפתא לא מצא הקדוש ברוך הוא כלי מחזיק ברכה לישראל אלא השלום)
