In regard to the beautiful shiurim of the three levels of Tesuva, I thought the Rab would appreciate this source.

    A Layman's Notes

This website can please feel free to delete the following brief notes, which are no substitute for R. YYJ's thoughts and elaboration:

    • R. YYJ (may he have a speedy return to full health) continues to teach a Sicha from the Rebbe dated Tishrei 1962, explaining a passage in Tractate Shavuos 13a that establishes how Yom Kippur itself effects kapara.
    • The Rebbe teaches how there are three levels of relationship between a Jew and Hashem. There's (1) a contractual relationship where a person accepts the yoke of heaven and performs mitsvos. There's (2) a perceptible underlying relationship that survives the breakdown of the above contractual relationship, causing a person who is alienated from his religious calling to feel unsettled. But then there's (3) a third level of oneness with Hashem based on one's inner core.
    • The last-mentioned relationship of "yechida" is permanent and not impacted by behaviours or attitudes. It is not subject to teshuva or correction.
    • Yom Kippur allows a person to recognize this last relationship and to appreciate his or her oneness with Heaven - a relationship free from distractions and brokenness.
