Loved the article, I really needed to be reminded and to keep reminding myself yidasha soul I don't think that there was any intention to differientate between sephardic and ashkenzi just like the sephardic use some arabic expressions at times so ashkenazim use yiddish. but it is in reference to all jews i am sure there was no intention to differentiate. i am wondering why this person took this expression so personally?

Yiddisha soul
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this wonderful article. My heart sank when you used the expression "yiddesha soul". When will Ashkenazi Jews, rabbis included, deeply understand that there exist Sephardic Jews that predated the recent new kid on the block, the Ashkenazi Jew?

Joseph was Sephardic not Ashkenzi - you evidently like to make a distinction. I never find it necessary to make that distinction, as we are all Jews, but so many Ashkenazi, in a sad display of snobbery or something else, only recognize themselves as being the Jews! Even in times when they did not exist, which is most of history! Since most of your readership is "Ashkenazi" I would be surprised if any would speak up about this - or even be aware.

This includes my own rabbi who was quick to point out to me he was an Ashkenazi Jew, not a Sephardic. Why was it necessary to make that clear? Aren't we all Jews? What divisive purpose does it serve? Obviously Hitler didn't care which one you were. Most of the non-Jewish world doesn't know or care. This attitude migrated with the Ashkenazim to Israel, where it is also strongly prevalent. And now to see that distinction made here, makes me sad at the blind sidedness that does not become this article. Neshamas are neither Ashkenazi nor Sephardic, they are JEWISH!

So our blindness is not only in a marriage situation, but on a bigger scale of how we view our fellow Jew!
