Hearing Rabbi Jacobson share a story about the beloved Rabbi Greenwald brings me back in time; I was there and saw what took place that Yom Kippur. Well, I did not actually see what took place, I saw the chevra check in, but under Ronnie’s love, they never checked out.While my zechus was to daven with the Jewish Heritage Center and ask HaShem to accept my tefillos, forgive my iniquities, and grant me life; Ronnie as the shaliach and malach of klal yisrael, was the beiter (intermediary), through kindness, empathy and true Torah sensitivity to bring these children before the kisei haKavod.If only we knew his exact words to them, we could package it into a machzor that we all could read for the disenfranchised, disappointed and disinterested among us.With Tu B’Shvat days away we can perhaps follow Ronnie’s example, some neshamos cannot be seen clearly by the human eye. Like fruit trees in winter, we identify with what we do see- barren branches heavily laden with snow and ice, exposed roots frozen in place. And yet, under that gray bark a miraculous photosynthesis is taking hold, creating a nurturing sap that is traveling through every crevice of this pri eitz to maintain its strength through winter and bring us spring buddings and summer flowers adorned in delectable fruit.Ronnie didn’t merely see, he derherred (perceived) what is going on, and what could be.
