כשתתבקש, חייג את מספר הזהות שלהלן.
Dedicated in loving memory of Reb Yaakov ben Reb Chaim Zvi Lipsker, for the yartzeit 21 Sivan.
Dedicated by Valeriy Arustamov in gratitude.
This weekly women's class was presented on Tuesday, Parshas Shlach, 21 Sivan, 5781, June 1, 2021, live from Rabbi YY Jacobson's home in Monsey, NY.
How do we understand Moshe's strange argument to Hashem: Don’t kill Your children because of what the neighbors will say?! And why didn’t repentance work after the story of the spies?
The class is based on Sefas Emes and a talk by the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Perhaps G-d was not punishing the Jews, only help them confront their reality.

Quick Question
How do we answer why Hashem cares what the mitzrim think?

Thank you for your great insights, warmth, and scholarship. As you discussed the recent violence in Eretz Yisroel I heard you a number of times say something like we would have been lost if it hadn't been for the iron dome.
Isn't it true that Hashem is the One who wins all our wars for us and the axe has no power without the one who is using it to chop down the tree? Same goes for the iron dome. Without Hashem directing it, it wouldn't be able to protect us at all It's just a tool in the hand of Hashem, our savior, so we shouldn't praise the tool.

Of course, we thank Hashem. An iron dome is a tool of Hashem!

Read up on the history of the Iron Dome and you'll see the hand of Hashem in it's creation!
If it was up to the minister of Defense at the time, Amir Peretz, it would have never been created - the team working on it went behind his back and continued working on it after he cancelled it!
Also, one of the engineers who created it was saved from a terrorist attack in his Ra'anana home years ago.
Open Yad Hashem all the way!
Rav YY - you are a gift from Hashem to the world - thank you for being the Ambassador of Light, Hope, Healing, etc. and igniting so many others! Hashem should continue to bless you with everything good so you can continue being משפיע טובכם לרבים in good health!

Question - you state they did teshuva immediately following, and were prepared to go up and conquer the land but Moshe told them not to. Based on what you said, that this was about mindest and emunah and believing in their ability, it appears that their mindset had in fact changed and they now felt they could do this and Hashem could make it happen. Through their teshuvah they had renewed confidence and faith to do as Hashem wished. Why then would they still need to die and not be permitted to enter the land? How do you reconcile those two points?
Thank you

You often talk about the person with low self image and trauma
Yet, the opposite also exists.
Sure there are many people with insecurities, low self esteem, trauma, etc.,
But there are also people with inflated egos, who think they're G-d's gift to mankind, have unrealistic ideas of their capabilities, etc.
As always, the proper approach is the balanced one, you are not that great nor that pathetic.

Question:Can you please explain how many people and who actuwlly made it into eretz yisroel from the group of people who came out of egypt? At what sins in thr dessert who perished?
Also, having more and more emunah is a lifelong work and progress for me. How can i not feel discouraged after seeing from the Torah that even that awesome generation who experienced the most wesomest nissim lacked enough emunah. How do i know that ill make it into a good place in olam haba and be zoche to techiyas hameisim?

GD expects a lot...
I know that we can meet HIS expectatons or HE wouldn't have made them. but HE also made us in ways that make it so very challenging in so many ways to achieve them. We have so many flaws. HE made us that way,, but I guess we have to remember that HE also made us with the ability to get better. It's constant work as you have said many times. I guess imaybe the most simple way to say it is. That's life. We have to try. We have to work on it. It's a lifelong endeavor. hmmm....

Our tzaddikim constantly arguing that Hashem shouldn't wipe us out
Avraham argued for Sedom
No one argued before the Flood.
Moshe argued many times to save us.
Who argued before each destruction of the Botei Migdash and each golus?
Who argued before the pogroms, the holocaust?
Who's arguing now?

The spies gave a factually correct report.
Then they gave their unsolicited opinion about those true facts.
Yosef was asked to interpret Pharaoh's dream. He also gave his interpretation. Then he ALSO gave his unsolicited opinion.
Both the spies and yosef gave unsolicited opinions after factually delivering what was asked of them. Both did their shlichus and then went further with unsolicited opinions.
Yet, the spies were punished and Yosef was elevated, big time.
What's the difference?
Perhaps it's that the unsolicited opinion of the spies was negative and discouraging whereas Yosef gave a positive and encouraging unsolicited opinion.
Also Yosef's unsolicited opinion can be said not to be a separate unsolicited opinion but part of parcel of the requested interpretation in that it explains the simultaneous existence of fat and skinny cows, etc.
Maybe the lesson for us is that if we proffer unsolicited opinions, at least let them be positive and encouraging and not the opposite

Wasn't Yosef's opinion (interpretation) actually SOLICITED? It was Paroah who had the facts (the dream) what he needed was the interpretation. And the fact that Yosef suggested to appoint a discerning and wise man etc (41:33-34) was advice, not opinion. And the advice was part of the interpretation as v. 32 makes clear

Majority and minority
It is a basic principle of democracy (and even Torah law) that we go by the majority and not the minority.
Yet we see here that the overwhelming majority of the spies were wrong and the small minority (2/12) were right.
Like Nachshon. Pinchus. Yidden themselves are a minority in the world. Frum yidden are a minority within a minority.
So sometimes the minority has the emes.
