A segment of a lecture delivered by Rabbi YY Jacobson to the Jewish community of Mainline, Pa. on Monday, 19 Shevat, 5781, February 1, 2021. The evening, arranged by Chabad of the Mainline, was led by the Chabad Shluchim to the region, Rabbis Shraga Sherman, Boruch Sholom Davidson, and Mendel Cohen.

This lecture is based on an address by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, 15 Shevat 5735 (January 27, 1975), published in Likkutei Sichos vol. 16, Parshas Yisro.

Moshe wanted the people to come to him personally
And their machlokis would melt away.

If so? Why then did Moshe acquiesce to Yisro and set up a whole court system with delegated judged to adjudicate? By taking their machlokises to others they would lose that influence.
