Avoiding the void
Speaking of addictions and feeling a void, below is something I am sharing to give a sense of what it may feel like. There is a hole inside of me That just wants to be filled It begs, it urges frantically Please help me to be stilled Fill me up with compliments And words of validation Tell me that I’m worth your time With much exaggeration Fill me with all types of food With treats and sweets galore Cakes and steaks, pies and wine Chocolate and more Fill me with your body Your mouth, your tongue, your soul I want you deep inside me So I can feel more whole Fill me with the pleasures Of music so profound It lifts me up, it carries me Then throws me to the ground Fill me with addictions I want a wild ride Alcohol and sex and drugs And thoughts of suicide Fill me with the light of G-d His powers I don’t fear Near Him, I am as though I’m not And I can disappear Fill me with just anything That helps me not to feel The emptiness and loneliness That is to me so real But alas! It does not help Although I try to hide There’s always a reminder Of what’s missing deep inside Sigh. Please pass the bottle of gin…
