The Grand Tzimtzum Debate—and the View of the Alter Rebbe

For Hashem, All Remains Undefined, Infinite Oneness; But the Entire Point was Fusion and Embodiment, So We Need to Work It Out Within Ourselves

1 hr 19 min

Class Summary:

This class was presented on Tuesday, 21 Teves, 5785, January 21, 2025, Parshas Vaera, at Bais Medrash Ohr Chaim in Monsey, NY.

This fourth class in the series on the discourse of Basi Legani, presented by the Rebbe on 10 Shevat 5725 (1965), explores the four views in Kabbalah on the Tzimtzum, the concealment of the Divine as the prerequisite of creation, and the view of the Alter Rebbe that in the True Essence, there was no concealment or withdrawal of any sort.

There is  nothing else but G-d. Why bother with all the history, complicated laws, pain and suffering. Why bother with Moshiach. There is nothing else but  G-d.

There is a dispute among the mikubolim whether

The tzimtzum included the luminary source , the  "M'ohr" or the resulting  ray of light, the "ohr". BUT the pasuk says that Hashem said "Yehi Ohr" , not ""Yehi M'ohr". That should solve the debate.

Why not just leave the kav of light when vacating the pre-tzimtzum

Light, instead of vacating all and restarting with the kav? Obviously the post-tzimtzum kav is qualitatively different than the kav that could have been excluded from the tzimtzum. Recall that Hashem created the world according to din before scrapping that and restarting again according to rachamim. This restarting is related to the total vacating of the light that existed before tzimtzum.

"From the seminal point after tzimtzum came ...

The whole world. This point very closely resembles the graphic description of the physicists  and astronomers how the "big bang" occured which generated all of creation
