And how does that relate to us, since it already happened so long ago.
We are still waiting for Moshing so obviously this is not done yet.
Is this to give us the koach?

Re: Question Here are your questions again:
1) Why do the pachim relate to the last nitzutzim.
Answer: So it says in Kisvei HaArizal. See Likutei Torah (Arizal) on this Possuk (Vayishlach 32, 25 see there).
2) And how does that relate to us, since it already happened so long ago.
Answer: Everything happens on different levels. What Yaakov accomplished happened on the level of Atzilus. Had he succeeded completely, there would have been no need for birurim on lower levels and Moshiach would have come immediately. But as Yaakov explains to Eisav there in Posuk 33,13 that though he (Yaakov) is personally is ready for Moshiach the ‘children’ (lower Neshamos of Atzilus) are not, nor are the sheep (the Neshamos of BY”A) and they would be destroyed by the giluy of Echad that would manifest when Moshiach is revealed. So Yaakov and Eisav wait for us to be ready!
Here’s the upside: all later birurim deal with much smaller s[parks and are elevated by much lower Souls than Yaakov, so 1) More is elevated, 2) Lower people like us, are born and serve a purpose and live forever in Techiyas Hameisim as individuals, rather than as sparks in the Souls of loftier Souls, who would be the only Souls represented had Moshiach come sooner.
Here’s the downside: you can always justify postponing R”L the Geula to allow lower and lower Souls to be born (and earn their place in Chayim Nitzchiim) and elevate lower and lower sparks, because in theory birurim never will end. This is why we say ‘Boruch Hu Shechishev Es HaKeitz’ He (Hashem) fixed a date for Moshiach which will not be passed no matter how much more could be done.
3) We are still waiting for Moshiach so obviously this is not done yet.
Is this to give us the koach?
Answer: The Rebbe holds that we’ve reached the point of no more waiting for any more sparks to be elevated, and what we need to do is ‘Greet Moshiach”.
Those who came before and started what we must finished give us enormous power to do what we must do.
