  KFR root
  The portion from 18:55 to 19:30 got me thinking. If כופר can mean to actively deny or reject, might we think of כפור as a passive equivalent meaning denial or rejection? I mean I know yom kipur refers to atonement but might we also think of the kipur as alluding to how we must deny ourselves while fasting?

    The link between coldness and heresy is already fund in the HaYom Yom. So Kofer (heretic) and kfor (ice, cold) have already been linked.
    
    But the link between these two forms of the same Shoresh and Kapara (atonement, which the Alter Rebbe interprets (Ig. HaT’shuva Chapter 1) as to cleanse) is hard to make on our own.
    
    It is not impossible for the same three letters to have two separate sharashim, though the Tzemach Tzedek (especially and Chassidus as a whole) tries to show common roots and relationships between all words f the same Shoresh.
    
    Example (I’m sorry I can’t type in Hebrew):
    
    (See Ayin Beis; the winter of Ayin Gimmel) S’fira, Mispar, Sfirus UBehirus, Sipur ViHagada, Sefer.
    
    Now, what about Sapar (to cut hair)?

  The description the Friedike Rebbe gives of the situaltion in Bavel is word for word applicable to the situation today. Rather scary.

    I don’t agree at all.
    
    Here’s why.
    
    We have gone through the holocaust that was prevented during the time of Esther. I don’t even think you could compare prewar Europe to that time, but today, the situation is reversed. People who are not frum are coming back! We are Erev the Geula, and according to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, every thought of T’shuva in and of itself is a step (of T’shuva) that brings Moshiach. He holds that every Jew alive today has had such a hirhur T’shuva and we are ready to ‘be mekabel’ (to receive) Moshiach.
    
    We must be more positive. As hard as the concealment is, we are (according to the Rebbe) Erev the Geula mamosh.
