    ב"ה b"H inyan: really the G-dly miracle

    b"H

This is really the G-dly miracle, of course, and it is paralleled in the beginning words of the Birkos HaShema:

"yotzer Or uvoreh Choshekh, ossay Shalom uvoreh et HaKol",  for as both parts of what are being made one in the cover - the one from the Holy of Holies and the one from the Holy are covered with Cherubim woven into them, symbolizing that all degrees of holiness in the Heavenly spheres come together in G-d's service (Sforno), the Artscroll Stone edition in note 6 on page 455 goes on to say that "the concept that the Tabernacle shall become one is an indication that all elements of Creation - Heavenly and human alike - should work together for a common goal".  HaShem, as stressed in the words above from the Birkos HaShema, is the G-d of Or and of Choshekh, all shades of good and evil and all creatures and creation involved. The Mishkan was a mini-version that contained this whole that our eyes, ears and all our senses can never encompass.

    size of universe
Actually, the visible universe appears to be 176,349,312,000,000,000,000,000 miles in diameter. That's 176 Trillion Billion miles. Just thought you might like the actual number based on a simple calculation.

speed of light = 186,400 miles per second
    seconds per year = 60*60*24*365 = 31,536,000
light therefore travels 5,878,310,400,000 miles per year
estimated age of visible universe is 15,000,000,000 years. (But that's looking out in any direction, which is the radius. Therefore, to get diameter, multiply that by 2.)

186,400 miles per second * 31,536,000 seconds per year * 30,000,000,000 years gives the above answer, if I did the math correctly.

Every once in a while I think about how Hashem supervises each moment of every individual and collection in all their relations and knows their entire history. It's impossible to really relate to that in any way, but knowing it's true does help me sometimes realize just how awesome He is.

    Warmest Regards

    creating vs changing
As a premise, I would suggest that Genesis is more than an account of God creating the universe, rather it is a lesson in creating. Creating is usually referred to as yesh meayin, (something from nothing) which purportedly only God can do. However, it is God's intention, in my view, to teach us how to do just that. The 31 verses you referred to contain the touchstones of how we reify and actualize thoughts and intentions in our lives.

In the matter of the mishkan, there is an entirely different purpose and intention at work. The Torah is training us to become masterful in our own lives.
For that to occur, focus, the attention to detail, precision, commitment,
discipline and a host of other traits have to be mobilized, in the con- struction of the mishkan and by extension carried into our lives.

The primary exemplars for this are the Kohanim. Their work, in the mishkan, could not be haphazard, could not lack the punctilious clarity and deliberate application of the rules. We, in turn, as a mamleches Kohanim, take on the practice of being rigorous in our observance of the rules covering life, in the hope that we become impeccable in our own daily comportment, no less so than the Kohanim were in pursuit of their tasks in the Temple.

With the creation of the universe, God acknowledges
the objects that had been converted from primordial energy, and gives them names
(which is an aspect of creating, distinguishing the something from the everything by naming it). With the mishkan, the process was to refashion what already existed into something which would have a different function (that's called change, not creation). However, the creative aspect lay in the fact that there had not existed a mishkan prior to this one and, thus, we see innovation, creativity,
and a whole new vocabulary brought into being.

same when a person "decides" to marry/build a family?!?
taking the exemple of the length of text on the tabernacle construction, one can take the "strange" length and repetitions in the narrative of the 'shidduch' and marriage of Isaac and Rebecca.
Wanting and taking the decision to built a "bayit neeman beIsrael" - a real one - stands for a miracle!! transform matter (EGO)in a positive energy is called too beit mikdash katan...
Any ... New Yorker will admit that taking this decision IS A MIRACLE!

    TO MOSHE G.
    B''H
YOUR SON DIDN'T LEARN ABOUT ''RACHAV HAZONA''?
    WHO SHELTERED THE SPIES?
DO YOU RAISE YOUR CHILD TO LIVE ON A DIFFERENT PLANET THAN OUR EARTHY ONE?
ARE YOU OVER SHELTERING HIM FROM KNOWING, RATHER THAN TEACH HIM HOW TO FACE LIFE'S CHALLANGES? HOW TO BE A ''GIBBOR HAKOVESH ET YITZRO'' ? OVER PROTECTIVNESS PRODUCES WEAK PEOPLE, DEPENDENT ONES, EASY TO BE IMPRESSED AND INFLUENCED.
KNOWLEDGE IS STRENGTH. SUCCEEDING IN FIGHTING THE YETZER,ENGAGING IN THE BEINONI'S ITKAFIYA,BUILDS SELF ESTEEN AND SELF ASSURANCE,THE ABILITY TO INDEPENDENTLY FACE UNWANTED SITUATIONS, WITH CONFIDENCE OF TRIUMPH. ARE YOU GOING TO RUN ARROUND HIM, AND PROTECT HIM CONSTANTLY FROM HEARING AND SEEING ''THINGS''?
DO YOU HAVE THAT KIND OF POWER TO CONTROL HIS ENVIRONMENT CONSTANTLY?
PREPARE HIM FOR LIFE, NOT BY COVERING UP REALITY, BUT BY GIVING HIM TOOLS TO STAND UP TO LIFE'S TEMPTATIONS AND SITUATIONS, TO FACE THEM WITH
GREAT BELIEF IN ALL MIGHTY,IN TRYINGS G-D BRINGS HIS WAY,IN '' HASHGACHA PRATIT''
    TO OVERCOME AND GROW.
YOSEF HATZADIK'S CHALLENGE CHALLENGE WITH POTIFARS' WIFE, OR KING DAVIDS SLIP WITH BAT SHEVA, ARE TAKEN OUT OF TOUR SONS' BIBLE?
LOVING YOUR CHILD , DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN TO PROTECT HIM...
IT IS NOT HUMANLY POSSIBLE TO BE THERE AT ALL TIMES TO SHIELD HIM, AND IT ISN'T HEALTHY FOR HIM. TO DO SO.IT IS MAY BE GOOD FOR THE PARENT'S PEACE OF MIND...BUT NOT TO HIS CHIKDS' BENEFIT.
    FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
    G-D BLESS YOU

    To Moshe G.
I do understand your sensitivity. Nevertheless, I don't agree in this case. Rabbi Jacobson's presentations are broadcast worldwide and the vast majority probably wouldn't understand roundabout language. This unique milieau is not within the realm of a private fabrengen that Rabbi Jacobson would hold in his shul or any place where the audience is of one cut. I find Rabbi Jacobson particularly aidel and refined in circumventing any improper word usage while speaking about these topics to which you refer.

rabbi jacobson be more careful with the words you use
    bh
at the beginning of your talk you told the story of acher
and used the word "prostitute" and the "use of her services"
your presentation is on line and your audience could include many young bochurim who are in yeshivas. as a matter of fact i sent a link to my young son who is a bochur before i even saw the farbrengen....i regretted for a moment sending it when i heard you be so explicit.
in the future you should allude to these facts without being explicit and whoever understands understand and whoever doesnt doesnt have to.
the rebbe would never be so explicit.....in your public career you must adopt a more subtle approach to these provocative details as your audience expands.

To What did Rabbi Akiva say?

    Hasmeichim Byisurim Olava Hakosuv Omeir....

The ones who accept pain and suffering (which was what his teacher was going through) has the greatest reward...
To this comment he answered Akiva Nichamtoni Akiva Nichamtoni. Some say it was because the other comments referred to his past accomplishments. However great they were they were the past. Akiva's related to the present pain and suffering ordeal that he was going through. He spoke how his teacher had a purpose even in the most excruciating present.
