I'm confused about our primal drives - are they the core of our animal or Gdly soul?

"כל ענין החסידות הוא לשנות טבע מדותיו"?
Rabbi: I haven't heard you address this yet, but maybe I missed it. There is a famous quote from the Alter Rebbe that the purpose of Chassidus is to change the very nature of our Midot. Can you explain how this fits with this maamar, where we explained that the Middot are unchanging?
Hopefully you'll see this before the last shiur on this maamar, and can address this in the class.
Thanks,

The American constitution is a genius document
That distributes and balances all powers. It may be greatly responsible for America's domination in the world--we have less people and natural resources than others). There is an intricate system of checks and balances (federal-state, senate-house of reps, congress-president-Supreme Court,) etc.
When examining the creation of various parts of the person, and the distribution of powers, and the interaction of these disparate parts of the person, we can see a similar set of checks and balances between seychel and middos, taanug and rotzon, the brain and the heart, chesed and gevurah, etc.
A brilliant elaborate system of checks and balances that results in harmony between and among disparate entities

Rotzon and taanug
Rotzon is the soul's desire for things outside the person, for OTHERS. We are all standing on and benefitting from the accomplishments obtained by the rotzon of those who preceded us.
Taanug is the soul's desire for things inside the person, for ITSELF,. Once the person goes the way of all flesh (till Moshiach comes) then all his taanugs, fulfilled or unfulfilled are gone.

So are there people that
are always in middos? I'm thinking that maybe that would be too intense to be there all the time. So sechel balances out middos somehow? But those middos dictate a person's behavios, thoughts. I'm trying to figure out the balance and how does one get there?

Hashem's epiphany was the thought to create
All of creation. And creation is His primal desire

Perhaps the process of chochmah
Parallels that of creation itself. First there is a filled up world that allows for nothing else. Then there is tzimtzum=quieting the static allowing room for something else. Then there is a single ray of light, that flash of insight we call chochmah. Then that single ray of light can differentiate and allow for the many details and particulars of all of creation.

because there IS chochma in Atzilut it is still only oneness and not singularity - (per mittler Rebbe) and contains potential so what you are saying is decieving (with all due respect).
WE are still seeing REALITY - so its not oneness - its duality albeit in potential.
Before tzimtzum chochma is is only a desire in Hashem. Please correct me ...

If primal drive is given to an individual and also unalterable
It would seem that this gives an opportunity to evade responsibility for conduct emanating from that primal drive.
Can a psychopath murderer say "my primal drive made me do it"? Can a rabid anti-semite also pass the buck saying "I was made this way"?

A sobering thought - the free choice at creation cannot effect the primal drive?
