My father and I have
had this constant discussion for many years now. Is it nature or nurture that rules a person. He has consistenly said it's our nature. I've said it's 50-50 . Both are equally powerful. Over time, my thinking has changed. Maybe this maamer is saying that is is nature, eg our middos, our nature is the one that rules.

This sounds like a deep
therapy session. Seems that the thing to be and do is to really get to know yourself, in a very deep and real way. That then becomes the goal. Be honest with yourself about who you are as much as that is possible to do.

How can the primal drive be weakened to accept input from the seychel?
From weakness, sickness, failure, defeat

How do middos
get weaker? If they are so powerful how can they get weaker?

If the primal drive is a given, and unalterable
Then the 10 miraglim who were afraid of the giants and the powerful in EY, are just playing out the role of the primal drive, and aren't responsible for their negative words and conduct. Just as the 2 miraglim that were positive shouldn't be getting credit for that either.
It sounds like the primal drive is as given and unalterable abd therefore not to ne punished or rewarded like one's height, eye color, etc

If middos is defined as primal drive which is given to a person
Then it seems to be unalterable. Part of one's nature.
If so, then the person cannot be responsible for not altering that primal drive, not improving it if it needs improving.
