  Yasher koach for the stones article.  A slightly different but the same take occurred to me.  Each of the stones represents a different facet of Torah, i.e., halacha, mussar, chakira, chassidus. Each wanted the Tzadik to be misbonen on that particular mode of learning/service. Hashem said, "Guys, guy's!  It's all one!"  
  
  
  
  Regarding the Rebbe, my friend Nachman Levine said, the Brisker was the inyan of gvul. The Rogotcher was the inyan of bli gvul.  The Rebbe is the inyan of bli gvul within gvul.

  This is a beautiful story.
  
  This should inspire all of us to try and live like that- thinking abou t and taking care of others needs before our own.
  
  BTW, I think my father was born in Chernovitz but left as a baby in 1918.

  A Tale of 3 Matzahs
  Although I read, absorbed and appreciated your entire article, it was a Tale of 3 Matzahs which moved me to tears.  In many ways, I am like the Skulener Rebbe.  I am self-nullifying to the extreme of quite literally forgetting to save anything for myself.  Sometimes I ask myself, "What am I thinking?".  But, given a choice or even a chance for a "rewind" or a "do-over", I would do the very same thing again.  I cannot be happy with what I have when someone else is going without, whoever that someone else may be.

    The mystics teach that "Nasi," the Hebrew word for a leader, is an acronym: Netutzo shel Yaakov Avenu, a spark of Jacob our father. An authentic Jewish leader is a a spark of Jacob, inspiring within the people that sense of oneness which Jacob inspired even within stones.

  In response to the good questions, albeit briefly:
  1. Sometimes you need to be practical and examine if there are factors which are not allowing each person to achieve his or her goals within the organization. Every organization and corporation needs a structure that works for everyone involved. Here we were addressing another issue: the fact that some people always feel they need the spotlight and heaven forbid for the attention to go elsewhere.
  2. Great example from the body. The body is one, yet each limb and organ has its own design, function and “mission.” For two limbs to confuse their individual responsibilities in the name of unity would spell catastrophe for each of them and for the entire organism.

  Beautiful message. That's why we wait for Messiah. Until then the walk will not follow the talk. Even in synagogues, politics evolve and opposition digs in. Even two distinguished rabbis who are brothers fall into the trap of human nature, contrary to their verbal beliefs. Self nullification and devkut sound fabulous, but jealousy or ego inevitably raises its head. Except in exceptional cases by which i mean one in a hundred. I have met such people. They are far and few between and remarkable. They tend to be regular people, not leaders, non political.

  If we are all of one essence, one being, why separate in words the Jewish people from the rest of humanity--is it analogous to an arm being part of one body. And if we are of one essence, how can we explain the differences between Esau and Isaac--as representing two opposing forces?

  I like how the approach of HaK’BH is not a stira to the other levels, I like how (though I’ve never heard it before) there is no such thing REALLY as a sin in the eyes of Hashem, only opportunities… at the end of the day a sin is still a sin… but the way you described how GD is only an image that we painted him into is a very nice gedaink…
  what does it mean it is not a sin?
  thaty since He is the owner of the will, so for Him the sin has G-d too?

  I need to tell you, I i-poded the farbrengan from last night… and I am very very nispoel. It was excellent… the 4 madreigos… chochma, nevuah, torah and HaK’BH… moredik, funny, deep informative etc. You should have someone transcribe it… poshut fantastic…

  Thank you so much for once again bringing your Chassidus to the Mainline. Each morning since hearing your talk, I "hear" the history of our people in the sound of the Shofar. May we experience the Geulah and Mashiach in the Sound of the Final Tekiah Gedolah.
  
  I had asked you about the Rebbe Zvi Hirsh Meisels because my Grandfather's Rebbe back in Ujhyel, Hungary was Eluzar Meisels. He survived Auschwitz but his entire family (wife and children) did not. His son (from the second marriage), Moshe Zev is the current Ujhyeler and is in Monsey. Each Motzai Shabbos of the first Slichos, I make my way to Monsey from Philly to say slichos with him. We then "fahrbreng" (just he and I) until morning. So, the day before you spoke, I had spent from 2AM til 5AM with him. I was still riding that high when you told the story of Zvi Hirsch.
  
  I asked him about Zvi Hirsh. Zvi Hirsh is his uncle and Zalman Leib is his cousin. They were together with Eluzar in Auschwitz.
  
  Ruv Meisels also sent me a copy of the memoirs of his uncle which tell the story of the 100 tekios. I will forward these to you when I finish this.
  
  Again, thank you for your words of chizuk, I will hear the shofar so much more richly as well as know how much Hashem wants my teshuvah (I may just be less hard on myself thanks to you!!).

  when we were in prague in elul 2 years ago, for the maharal's yartzeit, reb yitzchak taught the first chapters of netiv hatshuva. and the first chapter is based on this medrash. the maharal gives a moshel to explain it. your class complements it nicely.
