    Shmaya and Avtalyon are Gerim

    Dear Rabi Jacobson,

Allow me to introduce my self My name is Benjamin Mesica, living in Rishon Le-Zion, Israel...(10 minutes from Kfar Habad)

First, Thank you very much for your great lectures and lessons. I learn and enjoy very much.

On the subject lesson, you mentioned that the Rambam mentions (even emphasizes) that Shmaya and Avtalyon  are Gerim, also Rabi Akiva and Rabi Meir are offspring's of Gerim. Just wanted to share my thoughts that maybe the Rambam, Loyal to his method, that Every Person Can be as righteous  as Moshe Rabeynu, wants to teach us that even Gentiles can reach such high levels and that it is all up to US!

No one can say, I can't study I wasn't born as Ben Torah etc...it is up you.

    Again Thank you very Much

    Yishar Koach

Thank you for the beautiful shiur of the Rambam. My wife and I listened to the shiur. However ,there seemed to be some technical problem as your voice did not always match what you were saying.

In the meantime , as of 1:oop.m. this afternoon, our neighborhood,Romema; Belz, kiryat  Tzans and Kiryat Mattersdorf are under total lockdown due to Corona.

    Gut shabbos,

    Pinchus

Beautiful words (almost word for word) from Rabbi Jacobson worthy of repeating:

"Why did Rabbenu write the Mishnah?  Saw talmidim are diminishing, oppression and difficulties were renewing, Rome was expanding and stronger, Yiden exiled to corners of the world.

He realized:  We don’t have cohesiveness, peace of mind, infrastructure to maintain the integrity of Judaism/Torah as it was when the Jewish people were cohesive and they could maintain their lifestyle and tradition in a vibrant, unified  and integrated way."

One can get lost in the list of the chain of names in the mesorah

I venture to  say that the important thing to know is  that every halacha we have today, or that Rambam wrote down,  is traceable back thru the list of  the mesorah to Moshe and Har Sinai.  Unlike other  "religions".

    Question for Rabbi YY

If the Mishne Torah was a comprehensive compendium of halacha, why was Joseph Karo's Shulchan aruch later written?
