What is not talked about is that sexual sin almost always pulls someone else in.  You can steal by yourself, commit murder, lie, blaspheme, rebel against HaShem, etc. all by yourself.  You don't need anyone to commit it with you.  But adultery, homosexuality, prostitution needs you to pull someone in with you, to commit the sin with you.  Even transgenders now demand that others ignore the truth, call men "women" and women "men", on pain of lawsuits, insults, attacks. What everyone wants to ignore is that while we are being "inclusive", young eyes are observing.  Children are seeing what the adults are doing, and we talk about the trauma of childhood and how it affects them the rest of their life, but we want to be so careful of those who wish to be "completely accepted" to the extent that they want to openly show their lifestyles, that we are showing children that they now have more "choices" and they are being influenced by this.  The number of girls choosing to be "boys" as skyrocketed, as Rabbi Breitowitz explains in one of his shiurs.  Children are seeing, but we don't care about the children, we have all the attention on being so careful, delicate and sensitive to the deviants, because their feelings and experiences matter more than even the future generation.  And, sadly, that is exactly the intention of the sexual deviants. Israel is once again repeating the patterns in the Tanakh.

We hear so much about being so kind, sensitive, understanding, non-judgmental, patient and welcoming to anyone living with sexual deviancy. Then highly critical comments are made about any Rabbi, or anyone "over 50 or 60",   how they "have no way of understanding a teenager" concerning porn. Dismissing a whole group of peope because of their age? When these sins, whether you have a computer or all you had were drawings, have been around for thousands of years? This is nothing new, and no one is being helped when you criticize anyone.  Its always alright to criticize anyone who doesn't approach sexual deviancy the "right" way, but nothing must ever be said about the destructive effects of sexual deviancy? All we focus on are the people with the addictions, its "you're great, you're awesome, so you looked at porn again 12 times today, so you lie to your wife because last nigh your were with your homosexual partner, that's ok,, you're great!"  I'm sorry, but the "relapse is part of recovery" model is completely false.  Yes, show compassion to the person with the problem but praising them to skies while "bashing" anyone who doesn't handle these people according to your outlook is wrong, too.  How do you know that that person wasn't trying the best they could, in the only way they knew how, to help the addict? You think men over 50 or 60 have never had problems with sexual deviancy? Why do you think its alright to judge anyone just because they aren't an addict, or they are older? Addicts don't need to hear how great they are, they need to hear, with respect and gentleness, that their life is in their hands, and hard as it may be, they can begin to take responsibility for the decisions they make, and that you will support them with loving accountability.  Studies show that religious based therapy models work immensely better than clinical psychological based "treatment", because they have accountability built into their program.  Engaging in deviancy draws one in, continuing to practice gets you addicted, continuing as an addict does escalate it, and letting an addict continue to think he/she has no power over their addiction and is not accountable because they are an addict is a circular path with no way out, and is doing them the greates disservice.  And until we feel the pain of our addiction, we aren't motivated to change, and not just the addict's pain.  Part of that pain is getting in touch with the pain you are causing others.  Addicts become self-obsessed, they need help re-connecting to the people around them and knowing how they are hurting others.  Its not all about them, its also about those who care about you, your family, your community.  There is not a single sin we commit that doesn't harm the world around us. If every mitzvah we do helps repair the world, every sin we do harms not only us, but those around us.  "Hurt people hurt people."  Addicts need to be reminded how powerful they are, and that if they can do harm, they can also use that power to do good. That can't happen if addicts are treated like fragile, helpless beings. It seems today its either you praise the sexual deviant and welcome them and celebrate what they are doing, tiptoeing around them and putting their feelings above everything and everyone, or you are a bigoted "phobe" who is a hater and deserves to be rejected and punished. There is a middle ground, why aren't we looking for it? Its not hard to find, its in the Tanakh.

Stop the whining! Your rubbish, abused. Man up! No pain- no gain!

I am referring to your sister, not to you specifically, do not get hurt by my perspective.

And don't suppress or squelch my opinion if you agree with only 89 percent.

Shorely there will exist something stimulated. So, the bottom line is to stop crying initiatives.

Disclaimer, no one must agree with my thoughts here.

    2nd medical opinions

    Shalom R. YY,

I would like to thank you and Eli for a very enlightening and sensitive treatment of a lot of difficult topics. I especially found Eli's description of the mindset of addiction insightful and, I hope, healing.

Nevertheless there is an issue here that I feel was treated without proper safeguards (which probably will be instated in the next session); Psychedelics.

I accept that there many people have been helped by these substances. Nevertheless, I grew up in the 1960's and I witnessed lives ruined or lost to these substances. Who knows, it could be that the use of these substances has killed more than it saved.

I had an uneasy feeling that Eli’s description of his experiences and enlightenment from various trips may awaken in some viewers a casual desire for such enlightenment.

My recollection is that the Rebbe ZYA 1) strongly discouraged use of these substances for casual or religious enlightenment 2) taught great caution before potentially dangerous procedures/drugs (even when prescribed by a qualified doctor) (e.g., getting a second opinion of an expert or doctor friend).

For example, in your recent conversation with Dr. Van-der Kolk, he emphasized that he only recommends use of these substances under proper supervision (which may be hard to verify).

Please be more careful when talking about potentially dangerous behaviors. You do have a mixed audience, possibly including people who have a lot of curiosity and not a lot of caution.

    Mr

Was scrolling through yeshiva.net mainly to have squizz at commentary on this week Parsh about the infamous Golden Calf episode when I came across this discussion.  The purpose of the discussion eluded unless it was to draw attention to the fact that there appears that there is some sort of epidemic in the religious community that needs attention. My sister in law has been a physiologist for 35 yrs and specialist in abused kids etc and now the head of the Physc dept at a hospital.  The other day she said something very telling to me which was that if she has learnt anything after all these years, unless you been in someone's shoes it is very difficult to give meaningful advice to them. Sure a Rabbi can tell them the Halacha be just like everyone else be kind but surely can't opine on other matters unrelated to theology.  One observation made wearing my lawyers hat, it was plainly obvious that Rabbi J was unwilling to address the question of being gay on his own but rather a a future session next week where there will be a panel which which will include some healthcare professionals which I guess will be there to act as as back up to debunk any theories about being born that way etc etc.  I remember a famous Chief Rabbi with a double iin Philosophy and the rabbi of my shul and author of many fascinating books (in English) many years ago adressing the issue for which he got a lot of flack at the time. It will be interesting to see whether the reaction to next weeks panel will engender the same result.  It should be plainly obvious to me that even the so called simple child realises that being kind and non judge-mental is not the same as endorsing something the Torah deals with. Isn't the overriding mantra of the Torah, tne importance of social justice.   We all have choices and everything has a consequences, it is called free will.  Some people has talent and good lives others have challenges.  I am now curious  to see if anybody has anything useful to add to thiis so called new issue or will the panel opine like the FED that inflation is just transitory and not whether it has been around along time and we should all retire to Costa Rica to halluncinate matters away.  Try just to be kind and non judgemental and observe 1 golden rule is my view. Listen, dont give advice to people unless you know what you are talking about and show gratitude. Oy vey I hope this diatribe doesn't make me sound arrogant and confused

An approach that helped me reframe the questions of why and how could it be.. with my own deep pains is to realize it was not a mistake, a flaw in our otherwise meaningful life. This obviously is the huge part in my mission. Meaning my job is to heal this horrible dark hole in me.
