the story of the soldier is a Medrash (maybe you said that & I didn't hear it?) on hayosheves baganim.

I have experienced a lot of pain in my life. I don't understand why things have happened the way they did, but have learned many lessons and truths along the way. I don't think for a second that G-d hates me. G-d who is all loving, kind, truthful does not stand to gain or benefit by hurting me. I see the pain as a method of showing me something, teaching me something, there is a purpose to it which in the consciousness of this world I don't have easy access to. It is not random, the less it makes sense the more purposeful it is to show me where I am limited in my beliefs, in order to free me from the limitation. This is not simple.

People have to much expectations from god. His goodness is a gift, no one owes the Jewish people anything.
