Dedicated by Binyomin Rutstein in honor of Sorah Zlata Chernick
This text-based class, in Maamarei Admur Hazaken 5572 (1811), a discourse by the Alter Rebbe, Baal HaTanya, explores the souls of Leah and Rachel, and why Rachel is loves while Leah is loathed. It also explains why Yaakov, and all of us, must enter into a relationship with Leah unconsciously.
The class was presented on Friday Parshas Vayeitzei, 9 Kislev 5777; Dec. 9, 2016, at Ohr Chaim, Monsey, NY.

Connection to the True Self
Thank you so much for spreading Torah!
In a maamar from Likkutei Torah, Parshas Shlach, you talk a great deal about Memale. From my understanding someone who has a love of Memale, or Ahavas Olam, is one who is connected on the most deep level to his/her source. I find it peculiar that Leah, who according to this Maamar, was far more in touch with her source than either Yaacov or Rachel, was so depressed. In another shiur you gave a moshel of a leaf that comes apart from a tree. Your point was clear; as soon as something leaves it's source it is suceptible to death and suffering. In light of this how do we can explain and categorize Leah? How could someone holding on such a high and complete level be so miserable.

Rabbi Jacobson does not finish the short maamar. He leaves the end of the maamar (which -according to Rabbi Jacobson) seems to be the answer to marital problems untranslated and unexplained. The end of the maamar statesthe Leah changes. The question is how does she change?
